Painfree perfomance

Rifen is our pain killer for large animals. It contains Ketoprofen and is the convenient choice for the large animal and horse practitioner. Ketoprofen, the well known NSAID intervenes in the synthesis of inflammation mediators by inhibiting the enzyme cyclooxygenase and to some degree also lipoxygenase. As a consequence no prostaglandins and leukotriens can be synthetised which will lead to quick recovery from any inflammation. Pain, as one of the five cardinal signs of inflammation will be reduced. This is not only a matter of the animal´s welfare, but also has an impact on the productive capacity and therefore the business figures. Short withdrawal periods and quick onset of action, long lasting effect due to accumulation at the site of inflammation are the benefits that no vet can resist.

The MMA-Syndrome

This complex of inflammations at the uterus and mammae with associated agalactia is a major problem in breeding sows some days post parturition. It has economic relevance because the sow doesn´t let her farrows suckle which leads to loss of piglets. MMA is one of the classic indications for Rifen together with antibiotic therapy. Rifen rapidly reduces the fever and pain associated with MMA and feeding the piglets is possible again for the sow.

Diseases of the musculoskeletal system

Ketoprofen cumulates in exudates and synovial fluid and therefore is effective at the site of inflammation far longer than plasma levels can be measured. In diseases like arthritis, myositis, lameness of traumatic origin, osteitis, spavin, tendinitis, podotrochlosis and laminitis it relieves the pain and reduces swelling and other signs of inflammation. In cattle an additional indication is to ease the uprise post parturition.

Mastitis and diseases of the respiratorytract

Rifen reduces the clinical symptoms associated with acute endotoxine mastitis such as udder oedema, fever and pain. Rifen alleviates the inflammatory reactions in the respiratory tract and acts as an antipyretic. This leads to a significantly better overall condition of the animal and consequently to normal productivity.
